This bachelors course in aquatic ecology is multidisciplinary and designed for students who wish to learn about aquatic ecosystems with a focus on lakes. The course will cover the physical, chemical, and biological processes affecting aquatic life with lectures, discussions, field work, lab work, and computer exercises. The course is taught at an ecosystem level meaning that processes and concepts are emphasized. Human influences on aquatic ecosystems will also be examined. The course is built around the lectures, demonstrations, and discussions in a morning session (Mondays 9:00 - 12:00) and a practical session in the afternoon (Mondays 13:00 - 16:00). To maximize the accessibility of the material, students have several options for demonstrating their learning through various course projects. On completion of the course, students will be better prepared for careers in or related to aquatic environments (e.g., lake and fisheries management, habitat assessment, data science, science communication).
